Project Description

Chester Mental Health

  • Chester, Illinois
  • 2001 – 2002
  • Remodel/Upgrade
  • Hardware: Modicon
  • Interface: Corsair Integrated Control System

The Chester Mental Health facility offered a different perspective in the “corrections” industry. The mindset was centered on a mental health facility for those who have committed serious crimes and deemed mentally ill, as opposed to a conventional penal institution.

The detention equipment consisted of magnetic locks, which were installed on approximately 300 patient room doors. The project consists of five touchscreen consoles located in the four stem unit areas and one located in Central Control. Each stem controlled it’s own doors with Central Control being able to control all doors. Each console contained it’s own embedded PC to run the Corsair Controls MMI software, an 18″ flat panel touchscreen, a Momentum PLC, UPS battery backup, and ethernet communication hardware. All stem consoles used PLC peer to peer ethernet communication back to Central Control via fiber optic cable. The system was installed in half the facility with future expansion capabilities.
