The St Peters Facility produces many liquid household cleaning products. Corsair Controls has been involved with the liquid mixing control system since 1989. As new products are considered and new formulas developed, the versatile PLC controlled batching and clean-in-place (CIP) systems allows this facility to produce large volumes of product. The PLC equipment uses remote I/O technology and PLC controllers via an extensive ethernet system over a fiber optic and twisted pair communications network. The system consists of nine (9) PLC’s and a Linux based route manager. The liquid batching system includes a tank farm consisting of twenty six (26) raw ingredients, nineteen (19) batching tanks, nineteen (19) storage tanks, and fourteen (14) packaging lines. The hundreds of control valves and pumps are interlocked through the PLC’s and route manager to avoid cross contamination of ingredients and finished products from the tank farm to the packaging lines. The entire liquid mixing facility is operated from the control room with four (4) operator interfaces. Also installed for trending and quality control records was an Industrial SQL Server Computer system tied into the control system. Corsair Controls Inc. responsibilities on the project includes system design, operator interface graphic design, manufacturing, supervision of installation, the PLC programming, project coordination with other trades, and complete point by point startup/troubleshooting.
